1. What's the first word that comes to mind when you think of me? 2. Go to http://images.google.com/ and search for that word. 3. Reply to this post with one of the pictures on the first page of results (don't tell me the word). 4. Put this in your own blog so that I can do the same.

I'm back. Exhausted.
Despite an inauspicious beginning, the trip rocked.
More details when I'm NOT exhausted.

5:14 pm - Long Weekend!
|
So, it was the Victoria Day weekend. I've pretty much completely avoided these computer things all weekend, and plan to continue to do so the rest of tonight.
Time to head to the bar! :)
Take care everyone. Back chained to my desk tomorrow.

11:21 am - Remembrance Day
|
Today is November 11th. Remembrance Day.
What I'd like to remember, today, is that we're creating our own veterans, ones of our generation, now.
And what I'd like to remember is that we must not treat them as those returning from the Vietnam war were treated. We must not confuse 'against the war' with against the people who fought in the war.
And, yes, we must rememember those who died in all the wars.
And hope and remember to work for ending the whole horrid business of war.
Take the time to think, today. And remember that people, well, people are people. Love. Peace. Those aren't outdated terms.

Thoughts. Update.
It looks like it is over, the Republicans won it all. While I am angry and disappointed and even disgusted, I'm not giving up. I'm not giving up that the balance WILL shift, that the world will continue to move more liberal. I was just hoping this was the year that we'd see it, that we'd see that, well, people realize that people don't have to be the same as them to be good.
That different does not equal evil.
*hugs* to all my American friends.. and, in fact, to all Americans. You all need hugs today... even if some of you don't know it

8:44 am - Election Thoughts
|
Look.
Here's my thoughts. They aren't pretty. The feelings I'm fighting against are despair and disgust - that Canada should turn its back on its neighbours to the south, that they have shown themselves to be not only deluded, but barbarous, ignorant, disgusting. That the US just collectively gave the entire rest of the world the finger. That we should write off the US, that we have to spend our time and effort - that, specifically, /I/ should be spending my time and effort - encouraging links to Europe and elsewhere because the USA is going to self-destruct in a mess of delirious religious nutbar behaviour, that if the Religious Right doesn't get them, their financial problems will and that they will try to take us down with them. The idea of George W. Bush in power with nothing to lose - because he /can't/ get elected again - is just so frightening I want to go hide under my blankets. It makes me wonder. It truly does. I don't know how we'll manage to protect ourselves against America, much less protect Americans from theirselves. I just want to draw a curtain across the border and pretend south of the border just DOESN'T EXIST.
But.. there's you guys. And others, of course. PEOPLE in America, people I know who got screwed in this election worse then I did. And I care about you.
So I can't really turn off America, I can't decide to write everyone off. But I just have absolutely no comprehension how this could have happened. All the information was out there. How could so many ignore it? Everyone knew how important this election was - where was that youth vote? I can respect religion, but how can someone legislate their own particular brand?
I suppose, officially, there's still hope. But even if a miracle happens, the fact that I know that that many Americans are so diametrically opposed to the rest of the civilized world sickens me.

12:20 pm - Tehran Endorses Bush
|
Tehran — The head of Iran's security council said Tuesday that the re-election of U.S. President Bush was in Tehran's best interests, despite the administration's axis of evil label, accusations that Iran harbours al-Qaeda terrorists and threats of sanctions over the country's nuclear ambitions. [snip] Mr. Mofidi added that “Democrats usually insist on human rights and they will have more excuses to pressure Iran.
